With a degree in the medical field, Olivia’s career took an unexpected turn in 2017 when she joined Marksmen for a temporary role. The collaborative environment and daily challenges sparked a passion for construction, transforming what began as a short-term opportunity into a fulfilling career. She thrives on problem-solving and working alongside talented coworkers and industry partners, likening her role to being a detective with hard hats and contracts. A memorable project for Olivia was the North East ISD Community Education Center, where she gained hands-on experience and insight into every phase of construction. This experience deepened her appreciation for the teamwork and collaboration required to deliver exceptional results.
Emilse was drawn to construction by the satisfaction of building something real, something that lasts for generations. Seeing projects come to life has only deepened her passion for the industry. Her first project at Marksmen GC, Stinson Middle School, was a trial by fire, but one that left a lasting impact. As an intern, she tackled challenges head-on and walked away with lessons that still shape her career today. Her advice to those just starting out? Be a sponge—soak up everything you can, because in this industry, the learning never stops.
Yara’s interest in construction started with her dad. He has worked in the industry since before she was born and showed her what long-term growth can look like. Seeing his career progression made an impression, and it is a big part of why she was drawn to this path. She also loves that no day in construction is the same, and that the work touches so many areas she is interested in like engineering, business, and architecture. At Marksmen, her favorite part so far has been the community. She describes it as a place where people genuinely want to help you learn and grow. Coming into a new position without previous construction experience could have been intimidating, but instead she felt supported and welcomed right away. Because of that experience, her advice to anyone starting out is simple. Ask questions. She believes people are eager to share what they know, especially at Marksmen, and that growth really comes down to being curious and willing to learn.

Marksmen General Contractors offers a paid internship program for high school and college students interested in a career in commercial construction. Our internships take an all-encompassing approach that lets you gain experience in all aspects of commercial construction from estimating to supervision to project management and even business development.
