Yara’s interest in construction started with her dad. He has worked in the industry since before she was born and showed her what long-term growth can look like. Seeing his career progression made an impression, and it is a big part of why she was drawn to this path. She also loves that no day in construction is the same, and that the work touches so many areas she is interested in like engineering, business, and architecture. At Marksmen, her favorite part so far has been the community. She describes it as a place where people genuinely want to help you learn and grow. Coming into a new position without previous construction experience could have been intimidating, but instead she felt supported and welcomed right away. Because of that experience, her advice to anyone starting out is simple. Ask questions. She believes people are eager to share what they know, especially at Marksmen, and that growth really comes down to being curious and willing to learn.
Chris pursued a career in construction because of the endless opportunities it offers for growth and evolution. With so many pathways and options in the industry, he believes there’s something for everyone. At Marksmen, it’s the people who make the work truly rewarding. One of Chris’s most memorable projects was the MacArthur Fine Arts building, a challenging experience that taught him valuable lessons and best practices. His advice for those starting out? Construction isn’t easy, but it’s worth it for those who are strong enough to see it through. Chris stays motivated by focusing on his “why” – his faith, family, and Marksmen – and his determination to never let a project get the better of him.

Marksmen General Contractors offers a paid internship program for high school and college students interested in a career in commercial construction. Our internships take an all-encompassing approach that lets you gain experience in all aspects of commercial construction from estimating to supervision to project management and even business development.
