Overview

This multi-phase project required expedited equipment ordering in order to meet the short summer deadline for system operation. The project team planned and completed as much of the work as possible prior to the June 1st  start of construction date while working through the significant challenges of the COVID-19 Pandemic including mechanical equipment procurement, increased sanitation requirements and an emphasis on tradesmen health and safety precautions. As with all our projects, early and thorough review of the existing conditions, problem solving prior to construction and creative thinking from our Marksmen GC project teams is what sets the stage for our firm’s continued success in exceeding customer expectations with excellence.

Each mechanical pod required new slab on grade concrete foundations to house the condenser systems and new ship ladders custom fabricated to access the mechanical rooms housed above the existing classrooms. This project required expedited equipment ordering in order to meet the short summer deadline for system operation. The Marksmen team was able to successfully plan ahead before the first summer by creating an innovative schedule that allowed us to do both summers’ worth of preparatory work in the first summer, construct a larger portion of work in the first summer than scheduled in the bid documents, and purchase early and store the second summer’s equipment for purchasing advantage in favor of the District. This allowed us to bill out over 70% of the cost of work for the project within the first summer. As with all of our projects, early and thorough review of the site conditions, problem solving before construction begins and creative thinking from our MGC project teams is what sets the stage for our firm’s continued success in exceeding customer expectations with excellence.
